Reverend Peter Koon Ho-ming was at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Admiralty today, believed to be applying for a visa for Chan Tong-kai, wanted for murder by Taiwan authorities.
Reports say that Koon was seen holding a passport, Chan’s ID card and documents with Chan’s signature on it while entering the office.
Koon told the press that he is dealing with personal business and could not disclose details about it, saying he will update everyone when there is further information.
Taiwan‘s Minister of the Interior Hsu Kuo-yung today said Chan must liaise his case only through the special “single window” mechanism established earlier between Taiwan authorities and the Mainland Affairs Council.
Hsu added that Chan had previously instructed his legal representative in Taiwan to contact the Shilin District Prosecutors Office.
He said all procedures including the issuance of the visa could only be done through the window, as Chan is wanted by Taiwan authorities, therefore could not travel to Taiwan with a tourist visa.
Taiwan authorities previously established a special “single window” mechanism to liaise with Hong Kong police and facilitate the process of Chan Tong-kai’s surrender.
