The police have lied about the July 21 Yuen Long incident, Yuen Long District Council chairman Zachary Wong Wai-yin said.
The police held a press briefing yesterday to address arrests related to last year's anti-government movement protest on July 6 in Tuen Mun as well as the July 21 Yuen Long mob assault.
Sixteen people were arrested yesterday, including Democratic Party lawmaker Ted Hui Chi-fung and Lam Cheuk-ting.
In a radio program, Wong said that police are trying to create a new ‘script’ to cover up the original story, in yesterday’s police press briefing.
“The white-clad mobs held batons and canes, they were prepared to attack passengers who returned to Yuen Long from a protest that day [July 21], it is not like what the police have claimed that both sides are evenly matched,” Wong added.
In yesterday’s police briefing, Senior Superintendent Chan Tin-chu, said police arrived at the Yuen Long station crime scene within 18 minutes, instead of 39 minutes, as had been claimed.
“It does not matter when they arrive, the problem is they have done nothing to de-escalate the situation,'' Wong said.
He added the Yuen Long District Council will continue to follow up.
Also, the European Union Office to Hong Kong and Macao, urged Hong Kong authorities to ensure due process in the arrest of Democratic Party lawmakers and other individuals, in a statement released earlier today. “The independence of the judiciary and of judicial proceedings must be upheld,'' it said.
