Catering sector lawmaker and executive council member, Tommy Cheung Yu-yan, said it is “unreasonable” that certain entertainment venues such as nightclubs and karaoke parlors will have to be closed for another 14 days.
Cheung said there had been no new local infections in Hong Kong for 16 consecutive days and that the government should shortened 14 days to seven or even less. He said he has been in close contact with the industries and considered that they have taken adequate anti-epidemic measures.
Take karaoke parlors for example, Cheung said there are separate rooms, customers can wear face masks when singing, and other measures such as regular disinfection and body temperature checks.
He said the affected industries should also receive additional compensations and urged the government to consider the actual situation and make appropriate and flexible adjustments when implementing any anti-epidemic measures
