This new flagship store is not merely a restaurant; it is a celebration of Hong Kong’s vibrant culinary culture. Daniel Lin, General Manager of Tim Ho Wan, shared, “We’ve planned this concept store for around a year, while Tim Ho Wan has already reached its 15th anniversary.” The space, adorned with sophisticated jade green and gold hues and warmed by natural wood elements, is an elegant fusion of traditional Chinese aesthetics and contemporary design. “This time we are using a contemporary Chinese style. The centerpiece of the restaurant features bamboo-shaped pendant lights, which sparks some Chinese cultural elements but aren't overly traditional,” Lin explained.
Tim Ho Wan’s commitment to authenticity and innovation shines through an expanded menu of over 60 meticulously crafted dishes. While the signature dim sum remains a beloved staple, new culinary creations tantalize the palate; char siu – BBQ pork, a very local dish is now available in the menu, as well as sweet and sour pork with peach and ginger, and the whole fresh lobster crispy noodles with black bean sauce—a dish that masterfully marries the freshness of seafood with the rich, earthy notes of black bean.
The menu is a testament to the restaurant’s artisanal spirit, featuring timeless Hong Kong classics and inventive new offerings. Lin noted, “As a Michelin-recommended restaurant, we are certainly proud of our dim sum with global footprint. Of course, as we continue to serve dim sum, we are also thinking about what we can do to cater to the current market landscape and the evolving preferences of diners.” Beyond the culinary delights, the flagship store offers a visual feast with dynamic artworks and a playful mahjong tile feature wall. “There are also some Hong Kong elements, like the mahjong wall on either side of this booth, which are individually crafted and then painted green to match our signature color,” he said.
As Tim Ho Wan continues to expand its global footprint, this new flagship store stands as a beacon of Hong Kong’s culinary heritage. “Our mission is to bring these uniquely local Hong Kong dishes too food lovers around the world. We have a good story to tell, and if there are tourists coming to Hong Kong, we want them to know that there are other local food too, besides drinking milk tea and eating egg tarts,” he emphasized. Whether you are indulging in the sweet and savory symphony of braised pork belly with preserved mustard greens or the innovative Tim Ho Wan plum cake, each bite is a tribute to the rich tapestry of Hong Kong’s gastronomic legacy.
As Lin hinted at future endeavors, “We plan to open another concept store in the first quarter of 2025 in Sha Tin.” With each new location, Tim Ho Wan continues to tell the story of Hong Kong’s diverse and dynamic culinary scene.
