The public will get a rare glimpse of more than 120 sports and classic cars in a parade at Cyberport on Sunday that will then proceed to the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the handover.
Featured among the Lamborghinis and Ferraris as part of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Car Parade are a Jaguar E-type and a classic Rolls-Royce, to be driven by Hong Kong Automobile Association governors Laurence Hou Lee-tsun and Lawrence Yu Kam-kee, as well as a classic Chinese Hongqi and a 1949 MG YT.
The parade, presented by the event's title sponsor Tung Wah Group of Hospitals and organized by the association, starts at 9am on Sunday at Cyberport.
"The association, a long-standing institution, has witnessed decades of change in Hong Kong. We are honored at the opportunity to organize this parade, and we welcome people from all walks of life to witness this historical moment," vice president Mak Hing-tak said.
Over 300 guests including Secretary for Transport and Logistics Lam Sai-hung and Secretary for Security Chris Tang Ping-keung will be attending.
Commissioner for Transport Rosanna Law Shuk-pui and her deputy, Macella Lee Sui-chun, will be among those driving.
The parade, starting at Cyberport, will pass through Western Harbor Crossing, Stonecutter's Bridge, Tsing Ma Bridge, Kap Shui Mun Bridge, the AsiaWorld Expo, and end at the Hong Kong port of the mega bridge - covering a distance of over 70 kilometers.
Mak said there would be no road closures so as not to inconvenience other drivers.
Each vehicle, even seven-seaters, will be limited in line with padndemic precautions to four people.
All proceeds from the parade's donation drive will go toward the TWGHs' Hot Meal Service for marginalized, underprivileged and low-income families.
"We hope the parade can generate energy and excitement that will spark continued support for the TWGHs' Hot Meal Service for the underprivileged," said organizing chairman Michael Lee Chak-hol.
