A British content creator has documented what he calls a “world record” airport experience at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), completing the entire departure process from check-in to boarding gate in just 7 minutes and 41 seconds.
The speedrun was filmed by Pete Laverick, who lives in Hong Kong, to share his departing journey at HKIA to assess its efficiency. The video has since gone viral, sparking international debate about which airport offers the fastest passenger experience.
In the footage, Laverick starts a timer at a self-service kiosk, prints baggage tags, checks his luggage, and moves through security without delay.
The timer stops after he clears customs: 7 minutes, 41 seconds total — a time he humorously dubbed “some kind of world record.”
The video has sparked both local pride and international comparisons since being posted online.
“Hong Kong’s airport is the best!” one commented, while another wrote, “I’m proud of our airport.”
However, others noted that Singapore’s Changi Airport also ranks highly for efficiency, with some travelers reporting arrival-to-exit times of just 20 minutes, including baggage claim.
