East Kowloon anti-illegal worker operation nets 20 arrests

A joint operation targeting illegal workers in East Kowloon resulted in 20 arrests on Wednesday.

Codenamed “Champion,” the operation involved the Kowloon East regional tactical unit, emergency unit, Wong Tai Sin, Sau Mau Ping, Kwun Tong and Tseung Kwan O district personnel, alongside the Immigration Department and Labour Department. Officers raided multiple crime hotspots.

Those arrested included 10 mainland Chinese men, six mainland Chinese women, two local men and two Indonesian women, aged between 24 and 64. They were held on suspicion of offenses including “employing a person not lawfully employable,” “breach of conditions of stay,” “aiding and abetting a breach of conditions of stay,” and “remaining in Hong Kong without the authority of the Director of Immigration.”

All detainees are being held for further investigation.
