With just under two weeks until the December 7 Legislative Council election, candidates are pulling out all the celebrity stops, and Election Committee sector hopeful Johnny Ng Kit-chong has landed the biggest name in town—Hong Kong comedy legend Stephen Chow.
Ng, who is seeking re-election, teased followers on Monday morning with a giant calligraphic “It’s Perfect!” the iconic character from Chow’s 1996 classic The God of Cookery, before revealing a photo with the reclusive star himself.
He explained that the pair have been friends for years and that Chow, ever passionate about the local film industry, was delighted to back a candidate whose platform includes boosting Hong Kong cinema.
The star power did not stop there. In New Territories North, Wilson Shum Ho-kit enlisted his cousin, veteran actress Joey Meng Yee-man, who blew kisses in a campaign video and praised his idealism and sincerity.
Hong Kong Island West hopeful Jeremy Young Chit-on persuaded his wife, former TVB star Nicola Cheung Sun-yuet, to come out of retirement for a playful street clip featuring a silent-disco theme tied to his policy ideas.
Meanwhile, New Territories South East contender Cheung Mei-hung shared a throwback photo and lyrics from a drama starring former Miss Hong Kong Anne Heung Hoi-lam, thanking her for the public show of support.
