Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu will attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting in South Korea and subsequently lead a Hong Kong delegation to the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai.
Lee will depart for Gyeongju, South Korea, on Wednesday (Oct 29) to join the APEC Economic Leaders’ Retreat on November 1. Before the retreat, he will take part in the APEC Economic Leaders’ Informal Dialogue with Guests, the APEC Business Advisory Council Dialogue, and the Gala Dinner.
“The APEC member economies are important trading partners for Hong Kong, accounting for around 80 percent of our external trade,” Lee said, adding that he will also hold bilateral meetings with other leaders to exchange views on issues of mutual interest.
After returning to Hong Kong on November 2, Lee will depart again two days later for Shanghai to attend the CIIE.
The Chief Executive highlighted that this year’s expo will feature about 3,200 enterprises from more than 110 countries and regions, including over 350 from Hong Kong.
The Hong Kong Trade Development Council will set up two exhibition zones, where more than 50 Hong Kong enterprises will showcase products and services across sectors such as food, pharmaceuticals, technology, professional services, and education.
A dedicated Hong Kong area will also be set up within the national pavilion to spotlight the city’s strengths and achievements.
During his stay in Shanghai, Lee will attend the inaugural promotional event for the newly established “GoGlobal” Task Force, which aims to promote Hong Kong as a platform for mainland enterprises expanding overseas.
The event will feature matchmaking sessions to offer practical guidance on leveraging Hong Kong’s international connectivity for global business development.
