With 100 days to go until the opening of the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympics, a record 9,735 athletes have registered to compete across host regions Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao.
Preparations have now entered the "final sprint phase," according to Chen Xuejun, Deputy Secretary-General of the Games’ Organizing Committee, who noted that all arrangements are progressing smoothly.
Among the registered athletes, 8,565 will compete in Guangdong, while Hong Kong and Macao will host 733 and 437 participants, respectively.
Hong Kong is set to stage four events: boccia, wheelchair fencing, para table tennis (TT11 class), and Special Olympics table tennis, in addition to the mass participation event of para dance sport.
Yeung Tak-keung, Head of the Hong Kong Competition Area Coordinating Office, stated that the events in Hong Kong will take place from December 3 to 14, with over 1,000 athletes and technical officials expected to take part.
Competitions will be held at Kai Tak Sports Park Gymnasium, Ma On Shan Sports Centre, and Tsuen Wan Sports Centre. All venues have undergone facility upgrades and modifications to meet event-specific requirements and ensure compliance with standards.
Yeung added that comprehensive preparations have been made in collaboration with relevant Hong Kong sports associations and organizations, covering venue layout, competition organization, technical official deployment, and equipment provision.
The China Disabled Persons’ Federation has provided technical support and advice, with mainland experts making several visits to Hong Kong to discuss and finalize competition arrangements alongside the local team.
Tickets are expected to go on sale in late September and early October, released in batches according to the competition schedule.
Tickets are uniformly priced at HK$22 and will be available for real-name verified purchase through the Games’ official ticketing website or WeChat Mini Program.
Free admission will be offered for the mass participation events—para dance sport and Special Olympics table tennis—following advance real-name registration.
