Hong Kong's iconic Haw Par Mansion will begin a new chapter as an arts and culture venue after the government selected the Foundation for Art and Culture Limited (FAC) as its new operator.
The Wan Chai heritage site at 15A Tai Hang Road will undergo revitalization to become a center for international cultural exchange, with operations expected to commence in late 2026.
The FAC, a local charitable organization focused on promoting Asian arts and fostering East-West cultural dialogue, will manage the historic property under a three-year service agreement with the government.
The foundation will operate the mansion on a non-profit, self-financing basis while developing diverse cultural programming. Planned activities include exhibitions, film screenings, performances, workshops, and artist residency programs featuring collaborations with local, mainland Chinese, and international creatives.
This decision follows a competitive selection process launched in September 2024, which attracted five proposals by the January 2025 deadline.
An assessment panel evaluated submissions based on predetermined criteria before recommending the FAC's vision for the site.
The transition aligns with the government's dual objectives of heritage conservation and cultural development, aiming to establish Haw Par Mansion as a distinctive landmark for global arts exchange.
Currently managed by the Antiquities and Monuments Office, the mansion remains accessible to visitors through free docent-led tours until November 2025.
The FAC has committed to maintaining public access through complimentary guided tours after assuming operational control.
