Hong Kong police have upgraded their mobile application into a one-stop platform offering over 50 digital services, now featuring an artificial intelligence chatbot that provides real-time responses and scam-related advice through text, photos, and videos.
The revamped app aims to consolidates existing electronic police services related to public needs into one single platform, including reporting motorist misbehavior, online applications for closed area permits, licensing for security personnel permits.
Users can also access Scamster+, a one-stop scam search engine, provide information to police via the Citizen Eye platform, receive real-time safety updates and get emergency and traffic alerts.
Catherine Kwan Chui-ching, assistant commissioner of HKPF (Information Systems Wing), said that e-report is at the heart of the “super app,” offering citizens a faster, more convenient way to report crime, without having to visit a police station.
“With auto-filling features, we make reporting effortless, saving time for both the public and our officers.”
The new AI chatbot “YesSir” allows citizens to inquire at any time about police services and common scam tactics, offering fraud prevention tips along with personalized responses and multimedia content such as photos and videos.
“[It] represents the government's first multilingual AI chatbot capable of human-like responses across Cantonese, English, traditional Chinese, and simplified Chinese languages, utilizing state-of-the-art development and support infrastructure,” said Mohammed Swalikh, a senior superintendent at the digital policing services bureau of information systems wing.
The app will be available on the government’s “iAM Smart”, allowing users to access all features with a single login. Citizens can also sign in using their “iAM Smart” account to use police services.
“The app integrates with iAM Smart, ensuring both adhere to strict data protection standards. Citizens can trust their personal information is secure, safeguarded in full compliance with Hong Kong’s privacy and data security policies,” police deputy commissioner for management Johnson Chan Joon-sun added.
As part of the smart policing intiative, the police force has rolled out digital solutions like online service and booking platforms, self-service kiosks, an e-traffic ticket system, and the HKSOS emergency rescue app. Upcoming initiatives include a next-gen emergency call system and communication system.
