Hong Kong paddler Ng Wing-lam added another bronze to Hong Kong's World University Games medal tally in the women's singles following her 1-4 semifinal loss to Huang Yu-jie of Chinese Taipei.
Ng began the match by losing the first game 8-11 but managed to win the second game 11-8.
Despite her efforts, she was unable to secure victory in the subsequent games, losing 5-11, 9-11, and 3-11.
Since there was no bronze medal match, Ng's performance in the semifinals ensured her a place on the podium, marking the first time a Hong Kong athlete has won a singles medal in table tennis at the Games.
Earlier, Ng had also contributed to Hong Kong's success in the women's team event, helping to secure a bronze medal. For her achievements, she will be awarded HK$100,000 under the Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Awards Scheme.
The Hong Kong table tennis team had a remarkable showing at the competition, which took place in the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region.
Baldwin Chan Ho-wah and Yiu Kwan-to won gold in the men's doubles, and Chan teamed up with Wong Hoi-tung to win a bronze in the mixed doubles.
Overall, this has been the best performance by Hong Kong's table tennis team at the World University Games, with a total haul of 1 gold and 3 bronze medals. The city's delegation has now amassed 2 golds, 1 silver, and 4 bronzes.
