Hong Kong racing fans enjoyed greater access to the world’s premier horse races this season following the government’s approval of additional simulcasts.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club offered 393 simulcast races in the 2024/25 season, marking a 7 percent increase from the previous year’s 368 races. Alongside the expanded schedule, HKJC provided enhanced racing information for overseas customers, further enriching the wagering experience.
The simulcast program emphasized the world’s Top 100 Group/Grade 1 races, reinforcing Hong Kong’s status as a global hub for horse race betting.
A total of 71 overseas races that had featured in the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities’ (IFHA) Top 100 rankings at least once in the past three years were broadcast, up from 61 the previous season.
This strategic focus contributed to a 2.3 percent rise in simulcast turnover, including World Pool commingling, reaching HK$13.11 billion for the season.
The SAR government, meanwhile, has approved a phased increase in simulcast events over the next two racing seasons.
Starting in 2025/26, the maximum number of simulcast days will rise from 37 to 53, with a further increase to 70 in 2026/27. Similarly, the cap on simulcast races will expand from the current 25 to 40 in 2025/26 and 55 in 2026/27.
This expansion will allow the Club to broadcast most of the IFHA’s World’s Top 100 Group/Grade 1 races, cementing Hong Kong’s position as a leader in international horse race wagering.
The move is expected to attract greater global participation and enhance the overall competitiveness of Hong Kong’s racing industry.
