South Korean singer Psy, globally famous for his hit "Gangnam Style," is under investigation for allegedly violating the country's Medical Services Act by improperly obtaining prescription drugs.
On December 4, officers from the Seoul Seodaemun Police Station raided the offices and vehicles of Psy's agency, P Nation, in Seoul's Sinsa-dong district. Police also seized the singer's mobile phone for digital forensic analysis to gather evidence.
The investigation centers on allegations that Psy received prescription psychiatric medications, namely Xanax and Stilnox, from a Seoul hospital from 2022 onwards without undergoing in-person consultations. Both drugs, used to treat sleep disorders, anxiety and depression, have high dependency risks and require face-to-face diagnosis for prescription.
P Nation acknowledged the situation, stating: "We have actively cooperated with the investigation authorities' requests and will follow the necessary legal procedures." The agency previously explained the incident as an "oversight and negligence" involving an assistant picking up the medication, but denied using another person's name to obtain prescriptions.
A professor from the hospital that issued the prescriptions is also under investigation as a suspect.
This is not the first controversy for the singer, nicknamed "Gangnam Style Uncle," who has faced past issues including draft evasion and drug-related allegations.
