Pop icon Taylor Swift is the most famous newcomer to enter the Forbes billionaire list, according to the latest ranking.
The globe saw 265 people become billionaires this year thanks to a recovery in many markets, up from 150 newcomers the previous year.
Swift, the most well-known figure on the list, earned around US$1.1 billion (HK$8.58 billion) from her record-breaking tour Eras Tour, the worth of her music catalog and her real estate investments.
French luxury goods titan Bernard Arnault tops the World's Billionaires ranking for the second year in a row, after his net worth grew by 10 percent to US$233 billion, thanks to another record year at his
conglomerate, LVMH.
Elon Musk remains in the second spot with an estimated US$195 billion, up 8 percent from last year but noticeably lower than his net worth in November 2021, when he
became the first person ever to be worth $300 billion. The decline is largely due to a fall in the value of
Tesla shares.
The new billionaires in China include Maggie Gu, Molly Miao and Ren Xiaoqing, who all co-founded the fast-fashion giant Shein and own an estimated US$4.2 billion each.
Taylor Swift is now worth as much as US$1.1 billion. Reuters
