Hong Kong shares extended gains for a second straight session on Thursday, even as technology stocks remained under pressure amid global concerns over stretched valuations.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index closed up 0.12 percent, or 29 points, at 25,498, while market turnover fell 11.34 percent from the previous session to HK$162.3 billion. The Hang Seng Tech Index underperformed, sliding 0.73 percent to 5,418, reflecting continued selling in major tech names.
In the Chinese mainland, the Shanghai Composite Index edged up 0.16 percent to 3,876, while the Shenzhen Component Index fell 1.29 percent to 13,053, dragged down by weakness in growth-oriented stocks.
Elsewhere in Asia, risk sentiment softened. Japan’s Nikkei index dropped 1.03 percent, South Korea’s KOSPI slid 1.53 percent, and Taiwan shares fell 0.21 percent.
