Hong Kong police have received nearly 70 phishing scam reports related to online broker Futu Securities over the past six weeks, involving losses of more than HK$20 million.
Police said Futu’s trading platform, Futubull, issued a statement clarifying that it never asks clients to provide account details via phone calls, texts, or emails. The company urged users not to click suspicious links and noted that official SMS messages from Futu begin with a “#” symbol.
Victims were tricked into fake Futu login pages via phishing texts and entered their details and verification codes. Scammers then accessed their accounts, sold stocks, and manipulated low-liquidity shares, leading to heavy losses.
