Deloitte China Southern Region Managing Edward Au Chun-hing was elected as the new president of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Also elected at HKICPA’s 52nd annual general meeting, Stephen Law Cheuk-kin will continue to serve as vice president.
The other vice president is Jasmine Lee Shun-yi, managing partner of the EY member firms in Hong Kong and Macau.
Au revealed that the future work of the HKICPA will focus on five areas, the first of which is to promote the implementation of the Hong Kong Sustainability Reporting Standards (HKSRS), the consultation of which was completed in October, and it is expected that the HKSRS can be published within this year.
Au said he would continue to communicate with other regulators in the Green and Sustainable Finance Cross-Agency Steering Group to make Hong Kong one of the first jurisdictions in the world to apply the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) Sustainability Disclosure Standard for Financial Reporting.
Other key areas of focus include continuing to nurture talent and attract new blood, assisting the industry to introduce digital tools and best practices, continuing to promote collaboration with Mainland and overseas professional bodies, and capitalizing on the opportunities in the Greater Bay Area,” Au added.
He said the HKICPA would continue to strive for Hong Kong’s certified public accountants to be allowed to practise in Qianhai, Shenzhen, as non-audit partners in the GBA upon reporting.
