Greater Bay Airlines hopes to launch its first flight next summer, when the aviation industry is expected to recover, while Hong Kong airport is reportedly planning to resume transit flights to the mainland.
Businessman Bill Wong Cho-bau's Greater Bay Airlines filed an official application to the Civil Aviation Department in July.
The airline is expected to become the fifth civil aviation company in Hong Kong.
Greater Bay Airlines is expected to operate its first flight next summer, Wong said.
In an interview with local media, he added that the airline will focus on developing Southeast Asia and mainland routes.
Meanwhile, Hong Kong airport is likely to resume transit services to the mainland soon, a source told the Global Times. The airport has been gradually resuming transit flight services since June.
