As an electric car option, with which BYD especially targets younger buyers who want good electric cars that are also affordable, the Dolphin has two versions: Dynamic Standard and Premium Extended.
Both will be available in Hong Kong with a minimum price of HK$236,000 and HK$799,800 respectively under the One-for-One Replacement program.
The vehicle's unique design takes inspiration from oceanic creatures, reflected in its curvaceous form and Dolphin name.
It is equipped with the all-new BYD e-Platform 3.0 designed exclusively for pure electric vehicles - like its cousin, the Atto 3 - and adopts BYD's patented blade battery to give full play to the advantages of intelligence, efficiency, safety and aesthetics.
The two versions - the short blade battery for the Standard and the regular blade battery for the Premium - have a total capacity of 44.9kWh and 60.48kWh.
Each version offers horsepower up to 95ps and 204ps and the maximum driving range is marked at 410kw and 490km under the NEDC standard. These models can also accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in seven seconds.
There are four driving modes equipped for both versions - Sport, Normal, Economy and Snow - with the first helping to speed up response on hills. Motorists can customize according to traffic conditions and driving preferences.
Although it is built on the same e-platform 3.0 chassis as the Atto 3 and has a shorter wheelbase (2.7m), the Dolphin enjoys a wide flat-floor rear seat space.
The trunk can easily store four standard 20-inch luggage compartments.
The seats can be split 60:40 allowing the 345-liter boot to be expanded to 1,310 liters when both seats are folded flat.
The integrated sports seats offer long-distance comfort as well as strong lateral support during cornering. These seats are made from sustainable vegan leather, offering an eco-friendly solution without compromising on style.
Both versions also include a multi-functional leather steering wheel, a 5-inch-long digital dashboard and a 12.8-inch-long instrumentation with a multimedia system.
Voice assistant system, Gaode navigation system, climate control with PM2.5 air filtration and Apple CarPlay are also connected, as well as a 360-degree surround view camera and a range of active driving assistance systems.
The Premium Extended version enjoys an advanced design with 17-inch alloy wheels, electrically ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof and a wireless mobile phone charging system.
