Lingnan offers MPhil and PhD programmes in various disciplines including Business, Chinese, Cultural Studies, Economics, English, Environmental Science (MPhil programme only), History, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology and/or Social Policy, Translation, and Visual Studies.
To offer more diversified learning opportunities, especially for interdisciplinary research studies, Lingnan has been actively seeking collaborative opportunities with overseas universities. In the 2021-22 academic year, the University has launched the “Double PhD Degree Programme in Economics” with Wuhan University (WHU), China and the “PhD Programmes with Joint Supervision” with Shenzhen University (SZU), China in the research areas related to International Relations and Development Studies. More collaborative programmes are currently in the pipeline.
The programmes will commence in September 2022. Admitted students will conduct in-depth study in specific research areas.
Applying for MPhil/PhD Programmes by Direct Admissions
Applicants should submit a full application to the University directly~ on or before 21 January 2022. Normally, full-time PhD students will be awarded full Postgraduate Studentships of HK$18,090/month* before confirmation of candidature and HK$18,440/month* after confirmation of candidature. For full-time MPhil students, they will be awarded full Postgraduate Studentships of HK$17,830/month*.
Other Financial Support and Tuition Waiver
The University offers a number of scholarships/sponsorships, e.g. Research Postgraduate Student Conference/Field Trip Sponsorships, Research Postgraduate Scholarships for Overseas Research Visits, etc. to support MPhil/PhD students in academic activities. Eligible students may receive tuition waiver for one year or the entire normal study period.
