China's State Administration for Market Regulation has announced a mass vehicle recall involving multiple car manufacturers. The regulatory body stated that the emergency mechanical door handles in the affected vehicles are too similar in color to the interior cabins, making them difficult for passengers to identify and operate.

The announcement revealed that Tesla is recalling the highest number of cars, totaling nearly three million. Starting from the 25th of next month, the automaker will recall a portion of its domestically produced Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles, alongside certain imported Model 3, Model X, and Model S vehicles.
Other domestic brands affected by the safety notice
Several other major automotive brands are also included in the government recall. Xiaomi, Leapmotor, and Geely will be recalling more than 390,000, 370,000, and 90,000 vehicles, respectively.
Hidden dangers during extreme collisions
The market regulator warned that the poorly distinguishable emergency handles pose a significant safety hazard. In extreme scenarios, such as a severe collision that causes the vehicle's entire low-voltage system to fail, the design flaw could prevent drivers and passengers from quickly opening the doors to escape. It could also hinder individuals outside the vehicle from conducting immediate rescue operations.
Automakers plan safety modifications
To mitigate these safety risks, Tesla has announced that it will provide free warning labels to be applied to the recalled vehicles, ensuring the emergency handles are easier to locate during a crisis.
