China’s carriers have canceled 904 flights to Japan scheduled in December following a government-issued travel risk advisory, accounting for 16 percent of 5,548 flights planned initially.
According to CCTV News, there are 172 regular air routes between the two countries.
As of the morning of November 27, Chinese airlines had reduced the number of these routes by 72, affecting 904 flights and eliminating roughly 156,000 seats.
Wu Jianghao -- Chinese Ambassador to Japan -- wrote in the People’s Daily, emphasizing the adherence to safeguarding the one-China principle and the post-war international order.
Wu condemned Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi for making blatant and proactive comments regarding Taiwan, issuing threats of force while refusing to admit her mistakes and retract her statements.
He said such actions seriously undermine international law and the basic norms of international relations, as well as eroding the political foundation of China-Japan relations.
Wu stressed that adhering to the one-China principle is a political commitment Japan must strictly uphold, along with its obligations under international law.
He wrote that the stable development of China-Japan relations can only be built on a solid political foundation.
He criticized the unilateral, destructive actions of the current Japanese leader as misjudgment, cautioning that the only correct course of action for Japan is to honor its political commitments, stop undermining the post-war international order, immediately retract the “erroneous and absurd” remarks and demonstrate genuine remorse and correction through concrete actions.
