China has introduced a total of 29 new undergraduate majors on Tuesday in its latest university curriculum reshuffle, aiming to address evolving national strategic needs.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Education, some 1,839 new programs have been added, while 157 existing programs have undergone modifications to their degree categories or study durations.
Universities nationwide will also suspend enrollment for 2,220 programs and eliminate 1,428 programs, the ministry added.
It is highlighted that the newly added majors include carbon neutrality science and engineering, marine science and technology, and health and medical security.
The ministry noted that majors such as smart molecular engineering, medical device and equipment engineering, and spatiotemporal information engineering have been included as well.
Meanwhile, the updated catalog features programs catering to emerging market trends, such as International Cruise Management and Aviation Sports.
Cutting-edge technology-related majors, including artificial intelligence education, smart audio-visual engineering, and digital drama, will also be launched.
In addition, the ministry has implemented a new mechanism allowing swift curriculum adjustments in response to newly prioritized strategic fields.
