A 62-year-old cyclist was killed in a traffic accident Monday morning after being struck by a minibus.

The incident occurred at around 5am at the intersection of Waterloo Road and Boundary Street.


Police said the victim, 62, was cycling eastbound on Boundary Street when he suddenly swerved from the left lane into the middle lane. The minibus, traveling in the same direction from Mei Foo to Kwun Tong, reportedly failed to brake in time, slamming into the cyclist.
The impact sent the cyclist flying, leaving him severely injured and unconscious. Paramedics rushed him to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The 74-year-old minibus driver, Yau, was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm.
Following the impact, the minibus's windshield was shattered, with its front end dented. The victim’s bicycle lay mangled behind the vehicle.
The case has been handed over to the special investigation team of the West Kowloon Traffic Unit for further investigation.
