The EPD received a report at around 5 pm yesterday (Feb 15), indicating that some sections of the Tuen Mun River had turned red. In response, the EPD and the DSD immediately dispatched staff to the scene for investigation.
Upon arrival, investigating officers observed that the river water had returned to its normal color and was no longer red. Additionally, no fish deaths were reported at the location.
On-site tests confirmed that the water quality indicators, including pH levels and dissolved oxygen, were within normal ranges. EPD staff have collected water samples for further analysis.
Initial investigations suggest that the discoloration may have been caused by a drainage pipe test involving red dye powder. However, the DSD confirmed that it had not conducted any dye testing in the area.
The EPD and the DSD will continue to investigate the incident to determine the exact cause of the discoloration.
