Police received a report around 1.10am on Thursday and found the bodies of three two-month-old puppies near a warehouse, with some amount of vomit next to them.
The fourth puppy was found foaming at the mouth and was taken by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for further treatment.
The puppies are among seven previously discovered by volunteers from the Paw Guardian Rescue Shelter near the warehouse, and three more from the same group remain missing.
A preliminary examination by the SPCA showed that the highly contagious canine parvovirus has been detected in both the surviving dog and the deceased trio.
Furthermore, the puppy carcasses have been sent to the Agriculture, Fisheries, and Conservation Department for further examination and testing.
The case has been classified as animal cruelty and is being handled by the Tai Po District’s Animal Crime Police Team. No arrests have been made so far.
