The boy's father, surnamed To, reported to the police around 8pm on Tuesday (Feb 4) that he had lost contact with his 49-year-old sister and six-year-old son since 5pm.
Firefighters and helicopters from the Government Flying Service were deployed, conducting a search that lasted until the boy and his aunt were found on the trail at 1.25 am today.
The two hikers did not sustain any injuries. However, the boy suffered from hypothermia and both were sent to Ruttonjee Hospital for checkups.
It is understood that To and his daughter felt exhausted and decided to head down the hill around 3pm, leaving his son and sister to continue hiking and planned to meet up at Spring Breeze Pavilion of the trail.
After two hours, To received a call from his sister, who said they were lost and that her phone battery was about to die. Shortly after the call, he could not reach them and reported the case to the police.
