More than 900 officers were deployed in the operation code-named "Levington", inspecting 157 premises including mahjong parlors, karaoke clubs, bars, game arcades, saunas, billiard rooms and restaurants in Yuen Long on Wednesday.
A total of 48 men and 35 women, aged between 18 and 75, were arrested for allegedly fighting in public, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, money laundering, trafficking in dangerous drugs and others.
The police said in a Facebook post that combating triads is one of their top priorities and they will never condone any illegal activities.
The operation was launched after two men were slashed in a knife attack in Yuen Long on Wednesday morning by a gang of seven to eight men, with one victim, who was reported to be related to the local triad Wo Shing Wo, later dying from serious wounds. The police are haunting the gang members.
