During an anti-narcotics operation in Yuen Long on the evening of January 2, customs officers stopped a man they deemed suspicious.
They escorted him to a nearby residential unit for a search, where they discovered about 3.2 kilograms of suspected cocaine, 800 grams of suspected crack cocaine, and various items believed to be related to drug manufacturing and packaging. The 31-year-old man was subsequently arrested.
The man who was arrested and claimed to be unemployed has been charged with one count of trafficking in dangerous drugs, and the case is scheduled for court tomorrow (Jan 4).
According to Customs, the individual was employed as a warehouse manager and rented the relevant unit. It is believed that the drugs were primarily supplied to the local market.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the drugs and whether any gangs were involved in controlling the supply.
According to the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in dangerous drugs is considered a severe offense. The maximum penalty for a conviction is a HK$5 million fine and life imprisonment.
