The event attracted over 10,000 participants, including movie star Chow Yun-fat, whose presence excited many attendees who eagerly took photos and checked in.
Chow, known for his running habit, participated in the ten-kilometer race, appearing relaxed and happy to engage with fans and fellow runners before the start.
This morning's kick-off ceremony was presided over by Acting Chief Executive Eric Chan Kwok-ki, Secretary for Transport and Logistics Lam Sai-hung, and Fred Lam Tin-fuk, Chairman of the Airport Authority Hong Kong.
Fred Lam commented on the unfavorable weather conditions, which did not dampen the participants' spirits. He highlighted the unique opportunity to view the three-runway project and aircraft on the runway and hoped all participants would enjoy the competition.
Chow Yun-fat, known for his running habit, participated in the ten-kilometer race, appearing relaxed and happy to engage with fans and fellow runners before the start.
The women's elite 10-kilometer race commenced at 8.10 am, with flights operating normally on the north and south runways. It was emphasized during the earlier conference that for aviation safety, runners were prohibited from carrying headphones, towels, energy gels, etc., during the race. Hats, if worn, had to be secured with a rope.
Kenyan runner Loice Chemnung, ranked sixth globally, clinched the women's elite championship, completing the race in 30 minutes and 25 seconds.
Local runner Virginia Lo, who also competed in the women's elite 10-kilometer race, found the third runway track comfortable and relatively flat, though a bit windy.
She appreciated the pleasant running conditions and was relieved that the rain had stopped just before the race started, resulting in cloudy weather, which protected runners from direct sunlight.
Another participant, Chan, shared his unique experience racing on an airport runway. Although he was too focused on the race to see any planes landing, he found the sound of the engines exhilarating as he ran.
Despite the challenging weather conditions, Chan pushed himself to the limit and enjoyed the experience.
However, the race was not without incidents, as some runners experienced discomfort after crossing the finish line and had to be stretchered away.
