China's home-developed aircraft C919 and ARJ21 arrived at the Hong Kong International Airport on Tuesday for their first display in the city.
The two jets landed at around 2 pm and received a ceremonial water salute from two firetrucks on their arrival.
The Civil Aviation Department (CAD) and the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) will hold a welcoming ceremony tomorrow. The aircraft will be mounted on a static display at the airport for three days, starting from tomorrow until Friday.
Local and overseas airline industry representatives, youth, and local groups are invited to board the plane for a visit.
Citizens and visitors will also be able to see the C919 flying over Victoria Harbour on Saturday (Dec 16) as it conducts a demonstration flight.
In the afternoon of that day, representatives of COMAC will be invited to meet with young people at the Civil Aviation Department headquarters to share knowledge and development of the C919 and ARJ21 aircraft.
The two planes will then leave Hong Kong and return to Shanghai in the afternoon of the next day (Dec 17).
For the upcoming special events, the Civil Aviation Department will set up a temporary restricted flight zone in the Victoria Harbor area.
Airport Authority Chief Executive Officer Fred Lam Tin-fuk said he was honored that Hong Kong International Airport is the first airport outside the mainland to welcome the C919 aircraft.
Lam stated that he admires and is deeply inspired by the innovative spirit and cutting-edge technology behind the development of the C919 aircraft, and he looks forward to continuing to strengthen cooperation with mainland partners and contribute to the country's development of a world-class aviation industry.
