The Hong Kong happiness index has dropped to a 6-year low, recording 5.88 points out of 10, with most citizens dissatisfied with the political and social situations.
Wofoo Social Enterprises conducted a survey between July 18 and 23 - with 1,283 online questionnaires collected - and found that the happiness index is the lowest since 2018.
Among the respondents, 24 percent said they considered themselves “unhappy,” which is a 10 percent increase compared to last year.
Nearly 30 percent of respondents stated that their mental health conditions have worsened, recording a 13 percent year-on-year increase.
The survey found that people who were unemployed and looking for jobs had the worst mental condition, followed by teenagers and residents who had to take care of people with chronic diseases and special needs.
In addition, over half of the citizens were said to suffer from symptoms of moderate to severe depression.
Lawmaker Tik Chi-yuen said there was not much community support service and hoped that the authorities could step up the measures along with continuing to refine the policies to support caregivers.
