The development chief said Sunday that one of the three detached houses at Redhill Peninsula, which was affected by the large landslide in Tai Tam, was found to have suspected unauthorized building works.
Speaking in a joint press conference about the relief works in the aftermath of extensive flooding across the city, the Secretary for Development Bernadette Linn Hon-ho said house No. 72 of the luxury private residential estate was found to have suspected unlawful constructions.
She stressed that the priority of the work is to stabilize the slope to ensure public safety, and the enforcement actions will come next.
Linn did not provide further information on the unauthorized structures and whether it was the cause of the landslide. She added that experts will further look into the matter.
According to local reports, the unlawful constructions involved the two-storey basements at house No.72.
It was also learned that the house's owner is a former senior management personnel of Blackstone, a US private equity firm. Sources added that the owner is currently in Thailand, and only his driver staying at the premises.
