A corpse has been found inside an industrial building unit in Kwai Chung on Wednesday, and police later learned about another case that saw a man fall from a height at a nearby building. Investigation revealed the two cases were connected, and police reclassified it as an attempted murder case.
Officers said the 26-year-old man, surnamed Chow, was suspected of murdering the 77-year-old man, surnamed Fan, who was found in Kwai Chung.
Chow then committed suicide at Fu Ching House of Tai Wo Hau Estate after the killing. He was rushed to Yan Chai Hospital, where he was certified dead following resuscitation attempts.
Police said the sister of Fan reported him missing on Tuesday, and Fan's body was discovered in a subdivided flat in Man Lee Industrial Building in Kwai Chung at around 1.42 pm.
Forensic examination showed Fan died at least two days ago.
It is understood that officers who responded to the scene found the body stuffed inside a bag. Blood stains were seen on the bag and on the floor.
Officers suspected Chow had strangled Fan to death with his hands in an attempted burglary in Fan's flat.
