Shenzhen Yantian Police News said today that the 12 Hongkongers being detained in the mainland has been transferred to Yantian District People’s Procuratorate for prosecution.
The 12, including pro-democracy activist Andy Li, were arrested on August 23 by Guangdong Maritime Police for allegedly crossing the border illegally. The group had boarded a speedboat in Sai Kung and were headed for Kaohsiung, a port city on Taiwan’s southern coast.
Shenzhen Yantian Police published on their Weibo at 3am this afternoon saying that mainland authorities have concluded investigations of the 12 arrested persons suspected of organizing others to cross the border.
According to sources, the 12 are expected to stand trial in the next 1 to 2 weeks.
