China's Foreign Ministry announced this afternoon that Hong Kong will suspend the Agreement on the Surrender of Fugitive Offenders, in response to the US suspending three bilateral agreements with the SAR.
In Beijing, Zhao Lijian, spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry, said Hong Kong suspending the agreement was in response to mistakes made by Washington.
Zhao added that China completely agrees with the stance taken by the SAR government.
Hong Kong issued a statement this morning, saying it "severely reprimanded" the US for its unilateral decision on suspending or terminating bilateral agreements between Hong Kong and the US.
The agreements include "the surrender of fugitive offenders, the transfer of sentenced persons, and reciprocal tax exemptions on income derived from the international operation of ships."
