The neurosurgery team at Prince of Wales Hospital, the accident & emergency department at the North District Hospital, and the medical staff at Tai Po Hospital have recently been praised by a patient's family for their timely coordination and treatment as well as post-operative care.
An elderly patient surnamed Yau was sent to the North District Hospital last year, where doctors diagnosed him with a brain hemorrhage and determined that he needed an urgent transfer to the neurosurgery department at Prince of Wales Hospital.
Following further assessments, the surgery was successfully completed by the next morning, taking just 11 hours from admission.
Yau's daughter expressed her gratitude recently in a letter thanking the medical staff for their quick judgment and efficient service, which saved her father's life.
The neurosurgeon in charge of the operation emphasized the collaboration among departments, stating the emergency room staff's quick and accurate assessment, along with the cooperation of the anesthesia and surgical teams, enabled them to complete the procedure smoothly in a short time.
"The support from other colleagues also helped ensure post-operative care," he added.
