Two lion dancers accidentally fell during a performance at a housing estate in Tseung Kwan O, prompting the team to swap them out mid-show and resulting in some mumbling about bad luck in the coming year.
A video circulating on social media Threads shows the lion dance team performing in front of a residential building. The description said, "During the green picking, they lost their footing and fell, ending up on their backs—immediate replacement was necessary."
In the video, the duo began their performance with fluid movements, but when they attempted the jump for the green picking, the front dancer wasn't lifted as intended.
This mishap led to the lion's head dropping, prompting a collective sigh from the audience.
In a second attempt, the two dancers lost their balance and fell backward, with the lion ending up on its back.
The dancers were replaced as the performance continued.
The video sparked criticism from netizens, with some commenting that the errors during New Year are unacceptable as they will bring bad fortune for the whole year of the Snake.
However, some acknowledged the dancers' hard work, noting that performing repeatedly during the New Year is no easy feat.
