Tokyo woman 'forcibly dragged into taxi' in Shibuya sparks abduction fears

A 38-second video circulating on social media shows a woman in a pink dress being forcibly dragged into a taxi by a man in a black suit in Tokyo's Shibuya district, sparking widespread concern over a possible abduction, though police have yet to confirm the incident.

The witness who uploaded the video to Threads said the woman was "kidnapped right in front of me" and that he had filed a police report with the footage as evidence. However, he said police only responded with "noted" and provided no further updates.

The footage shows the man dragging the struggling woman towards the taxi, with her shoes, handbag and umbrella falling to the ground. She briefly broke free and tried to escape before the man shoved her into the vehicle like luggage, gathered her belongings, threw them into the car, and appeared to punch her before closing the door. The taxi driver did not intervene.

The incident has sparked debate online, with some expressing alarm and others urging caution, suggesting the pair may have known each other and the man could have been helping an intoxicated woman home. Japanese media quoted sources saying the woman may be a nightclub hostess and the man a staff member responsible for client transport, suggesting the incident may be work-related rather than an abduction.

Police have not released any findings or confirmed the identities or relationship of those involved.
