South Korean actor Kim Soo Hyun's agency, Gold Medalist, announced on Thursday that there will be an official statement next week regarding the recent allegations of having a financial dispute with the late actress Kim Sae Ron, following the revelation of their secret six-year romance.
The announcement came after allegations from a YouTube Channel, HoverLab (also known as Garosero Research), which claimed the two actors had been secretly dating since Kim Sae Ron was 15.
Following the earlier release of intimate selfies and documents between the duo, the channel unveiled the newest evidence on Wednesday night (Mar 12), which included love letters allegedly sent by Kim Soo Hyun to Kim Sae Ron during his military service, along with postcards from Paris.
The letters reportedly include affectionate nicknames, with Kim Soo Hyun referring to Kim Sae Ron as "Seronero," while Kim Sae Ron had uploaded a selfie on May 21, 2016, with the caption "Seronero," implying that this nickname was an expression of endearment between the two.
During the channel's second interview with the woman claiming to be the late actress's aunt on Wednesday night, she angrily criticized Kim Soo Hyun and urged him to apologies to Kim Soo Ran and restore her reputation.
Local media indicated that the Gold Medalist first required that Kim Sae Ron repay 7 billion won in compensation for her drunk driving incident in 2022. However, after Kim Sae Ron reportedly kneeled during negotiations, the amount was reduced to 700 million won.
The ongoing rumor has significantly impacted Kim Soo Hyun's career, losing at least 14 endorsement deals across various sectors, ranging from Bakery chain Tous les Jours, Athleisure group K2 Korea, and Korean cosmetics Dinto.
Owing to his popularity in China, Korea, and Southeast Asia, he was reported to have the highest advertising fees in the industry. According to industry experts, he might face penalties of at least 20 billion won due to contract clauses that impose hefty fines for social disputes.
As public sentiment turns sour, many Korean netizens call for his departure from the MBC variety show "Good Day," hosted by G-Dragon.
It was initially reported that Kim Soo Hyun would not attend the filming of "Good Day" on Thursday (Mar 13), but South Korean media later revealed that he participated in the filming, looking tired and apologizing to the cast and crew.
Despite the growing controversy, the filming of Kim Soo Hyun's newest drama "Knock Off" remained unaffected, with Disney+ stating no updates to share at this time.
Golden Medalist promised a comprehensive response based on clear evidence next week, leaving fans and the public eager to see what unfolds.
