Hockey fans, it’s that time of year again! The Mega Ice Hockey 5’s, Asia’s largest and most exhilarating ice hockey tournament, is back and better than ever as it celebrates its 15th anniversary. The excitement kicks off on April 23 with lively opening festivities, followed by the first match on April 24, all taking place at the spectacular Mega Ice rink on the 10th floor of MegaBox.

This year promises to be historic, with a record-breaking 111 teams from 14 countries gearing up to hit the ice—more than ever before! From April 24 to May 10, prepare for an action-packed atmosphere filled with fast-paced games and unforgettable moments.

Stories that inspire

But beyond the numbers and non-stop action, the heart of the tournament is the stories of its players—especially the veterans who have been here since day one. Take Yannick Wong and Michael Lam, for example. These two have suited up for every single Mega Ice Hockey 5’s since the very beginning and are back for their 15th run this year.

For Yannick, the tournament is more than just a series of games. “Every year, it’s like coming home,” he shares, smiling. “The thrill of a hard-fought win is amazing, and even the tough losses teach you something. But more than that, it’s the friendships and team spirit that keep me going.” He remembers nail-biting finishes, last-minute goals, and celebrations that spilled out from the rink and into the city. “Some of my closest friends are people I met right here on the ice, and every year we get to reconnect, challenge each other, and make new memories.”

Michael, a seasoned ice hockey player, says that stepping onto the ice at MegaBox still gives him butterflies. “There’s pressure, of course. The competition gets tougher every year. But the moment the game starts, I forget about everything else. You just get lost in the game, the speed, the noise from the crowd.” He adds, “Playing in front of a home audience, with my family and friends cheering, is something special. It’s a huge motivator.”

A platform for young talent

Both Yannick and Michael are now coaching the next generation of players, and witnessing their students participate in the tournament is incredibly rewarding. “This event is a great platform for young talent,” Yannick says. “These kids bring such creativity and energy to the game.” Michael adds, “The tournament has grown so much—sometimes you look across the ice and see a team from Russia or somewhere unexpected. Every year, there’s a new twist, and you have to be ready for anything!”

While not every game ends in victory, the lessons learned are invaluable. “Losses can be tough, but they teach resilience,” Yannick explains. “After each game, we analyze our performance and discuss how to improve. It’s all part of growing as players and individuals.” Michael emphasizes the importance of enjoying every moment on the ice.

The excitement isn’t limited to the ice. True to its festival spirit, this annual tournament transforms MegaBox into a celebration for all ages. Global talent unites

Players from across the globe are coming together—Australia, Canada, China, Japan, and many more. With 74 teams in the Youth Division and 37 in the Adult Division, nearly 1,800 players are ready to showcase their talent and passion for the game.
The competition is divided into two thrilling segments: the Youth Division runs from April 24 to May 3, followed by the Adult Division from May 5 to May 10.
