Hong Kong Olympic alpine skier Audrey Alice King has tested positive for Covid-19 upon her arrival at Beijing for the Winter Olympics.
King tested positive in an initial nucleic acid test upon arrival in Beijing from the team’s Bosnia training camp on January 30. She was confirmed with Covid-19 on Monday, Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong (SF&OC), China said in a statement.
The 19-year-old skier is currently in stable condition and will be sent to quarantine.
According to the Beijing Olympic Organising Committee, King must undergo testing every 6 hours until she tests negative for two consecutive days. Then she can be allowed to leave the quarantine facility, and her health conditions will be monitored for another seven days.
Should King test negative in time, she will be able to compete in the women’s slalom on February 9.
King’s teammate Adrian Yung Hau-tsuen and head coach Marko Rudic both tested negative for Covid-19 and have been designated as close contacts. They have been instructed to self-isolate and get tested every 12 hours.
Upon testing negative for 7 consecutive days, the pair can get tested once daily. Only when they meet conditions set by authorities will they be allowed to join competitions.
According to the guidelines, Yung, who is set to compete in the men’s giant slalom on February 13, will be allowed to train under social distancing guidelines. However, they will not be allowed entry into certain public facilities.
