The winners of this year's prestigious Film Music Contest have been announced, and a composer from Hong Kong is among the top prize winners.
The FMC is an international music awards competition - one of the largest of its kind - in which composers are given the opportunity to showcase original music on a global stage.
The jury is comprised of elite professionals in the music and film industries, and who work for large film studios, national TV broadcasters and theatrical agencies.
Sincere congratulations to talented Hong Kong-based musician and composer Shirley Choi, who placed second in the category for original music for film, television, advertisements and video games with her composition Green Warriors: Now or Never.
The symphony takes listeners on an auditory journey that evokes a grand sense of adventure.
Choi is not only exceptionally gifted in music but is also an author, app developer, and entrepreneur. Currently, she is an artist with the Hong Kong Philharmonic and is in collaboration with Oscar-winning producer Sven Ebeling on a film-scoring project.
A true trailblazer of her industry, she has made the choice not to "sell" her music but instead make everything available for free digital downloads.
Above all, Choi is passionate about bettering the world. One avenue she uses to do so is by creating free educational apps for kids, highlighting essential topics such as climate change and conservation.
One of her apps, Kakamega Rainforest, catapulted to No.10 worldwide on the Apple iOS book charts.
"As a musician and composer I want my music to bring joy and happiness," Choi says. "There is enough negativity around the world, and I hope my music can make this world a better place."
