PolyU president Teng Jin-guang said in a media spring reception that the hospital will leverage the university’s strength on rehabilitation therapy, medical laboratory science, radiation therapy, and optometry. The medical school would take one hundred students each year. The plan would be realized in five to six years.
Council chairman Lam Tai-fai said it would be a smart hospital integrating artificial intelligence into medical science but he reckons that the plan is in the preliminary stage.
Earlier, the University of Science and Technology has proposed to build the third medical school in Hong Kong.
Also, PolyU has proposed a hotel similar to Hotel ICON in Hung Hom for teaching and training in the Northern Metropolis with more space for conference and exhibition.
A 60-hectare university town would be developed in the metropolis and different institutions have put forward their proposals.
Meanwhile, Lam said as PolyU celebrates the 30th anniversary of gaining university title, a Chinese cultural festival including a series of events such as silk and porcelain workshops and talks will be held.
