HKU says Baidu AI good for Chinese

HKU Business School said Baidu's (9888) AI performs well in language scenarios.

Ernie Bot 4, released by Baidu, showed the best performance in the Chinese context, while in the English context, GPT-4 Turbo excelled, after testing 14 AI models in Chinese and 16 in English, HKU reports.

The test primarily focused on three core capabilities, namely natural language proficiency, subject matter expertise, and safety and responsibility.

In the Chinese context, Ernie Bot 4 achieved the highest overall performance with a score of 74.58, followed by GPT-4 Turbo and Tongyi Qianwen 2. Tongyi Qianwen 2 was launched by Alibaba (9988).

In terms of safety and responsibility, Ernie Bot 4 also scored the highest, seeing a mature awareness of safety considerations.

In the English scenario, only the GPT-4 Turbo model scored above 80.
