Geely Automobile (0175) yesterday said vehicle sales jumped 35 percent to about 120,000 units in May from a year ago.
In the first five months of this year, sales grew 14 percent to more than 556,000 units, a filing said yesterday.
This came as automaker Tesla delivered 77,695 China-made electric vehicles in May, a 2.4 percent jump from April, data from the China Passenger Car Association showed.
On a yearly basis, sales rose 142 percent in May from 32,165 vehicles in the same month of 2022 when Shanghai, where its factory is located, was still subject to Covid containment measures that impacted production.
Meanwhile, Tesla's Chinese rival BYD (1211), with its Dynasty and Ocean series of EVs and petrol-electric hybrid vehicles, logged sales of 239,092 vehicles in May, up 14 percent from April, association data showed.
It is scheduled to release more detailed car sales figures for May later this month.
