Ocean Park will have a new adventure zone featuring a 30-meter high bungee jump and a 1,000m zip line, as the park accepted the tender from Shun Tak Holdings and New Zealand-based giant AJ Hackett Bungy Jumping to build the zone.
The new Adventure Zone at Upper Park "The Summit," which will be approximately 120,000 square meters, will be divided into three areas and will be priced separately - which the park explained was in line with its development plan with the government in 2021. However, the zone will not open until 2028.
Shun Tak Holding on Monday disclosed that the park had accepted the tender submitted by Shun Tak and AJ Hackett consortia for the new adventure zone.
Announcing the details yesterday, Ocean Park chairman Paulo Pong Kin-yee described the zone as a "significant milestone" for the park and the SAR's tourism industry.
"We are confident that the Adventure Zone will appeal to enthusiasts and families alike, thereby broadening our visitor base and enhancing the overall experience and market competitiveness of Ocean Park as a resort destination," said Pong.
Ocean Park CEO Ivan Wong Chi-fai said the zone's pricing will be announced when it opens, confident that the project can enhance the park's competitiveness and sustainability.
The park is cooperating with Shun Tak and AJ Hackett in a "Build-Operate-Transfer" model, in which the consortia will be responsible for the construction and operation at its own cost, and will return the zone to the park as the contract expires, he said.
The park does not need to invest in the project, he added.
Construction is expected to start in the fourth quarter of the year and completed by 2028.
The zone will feature the Twin Bungy and the 30-meter-high Twin Giant Swing, as well as outdoor playgrounds, water adventure play areas and climbing walls around the former Raging River.
Meanwhile, two 1,000m zip lines will span across the former Boardwalk Cafe, soaring above the park's Water World, and another weaving in and out of the lush green bushland. "Visitors can feel the rush on three long adrenaline Dry Slides, renowned for their steep slopes and sharp curves," the park said.
It added that the former site of the Mine Train will be turned into an activity hub and will feature a Ropes Park and the Luge-Alpine Coaster.
