Jackpot excitement wins the day

No one had by last night claimed a win in the New Year Snowball Draw on Wednesday with its jackpot of over HK$80 million.

There had not been first prize winners in the previous five draws, so the jackpot rolled over to tomorrow, with the prospect of a HK$96 million payout for a HK$10 winning unit.

But God of Fortune stories were to be heard.

A Hong Kong man took to social media with word he bought a Mark Six ticket with 42 friends for the New Year Snowball. The group chose 16 numbers and the ticket cost them over HK$40,000.

But not one of their 16 numbers matched with the seven drawn.

A netizen left encouraging words on their letdown, saying: "It's actually okay for you guys. On average everyone paid around HK$900 only. You guys made history."

Another noted: "The probability of having none of the 16 numbers match with the winners is less than 8 percent.

"The probability of winning any prize in the Mark Six is around 1.85 percent."
